 The Conga is of the shape, which is tall, single headed drum of the origin of Africa. The congas are derived probably from the Makuta drums of the Congolese or from Sikulu drums, which were played in Congo in the place of Mbanza Ngungu. Any person who plays the Conga is called a “conguero”.

The Conga drums are ultimately derived from the African drums, which are made of hollowed logs. The Cuban conga is straved, which looks like a barrel. Originally salvaged barrels are used for making of these drums.

They were utilized in the religious music of Afro-Caribbean and also in Rumba as the principal instrument. Congo drum is one of the prime members of the World Drums. It is commonly used in Latin music. It includes salsa music other forms of popular music of America. Now the modern congas consist of a fiberglass shell and a screw drumhead. The Conga drums are played with two to four sets of fingers and palms of the hand. Some of the typical congas stand about 75 cm from the head to the bottom of the shell. It can also be played while sitting. To permit the player of the Conga drum, the Congas can be made to stand to play while standing.

The Conga Drums varies with Remo djembe in the fact that the later is of the origin of Maninka in West Africa. Its skin if of synthetic and is made entirely with fiberglass.

On the other hand it varies with Doumbek Drums in terms of that these drums are goblet in shape and made up of ceramic.
